As part of its commitments to improving air quality, the sharp increase in electromobility, and the ambitions of the Low-Emissions-Mobility Zone (ZFE-m) approved by the Eurométropole Council on 15 October 2021, Eurométropole de Strasbourg sought to roll out a broad network of charging facilities to expand the use of electric vehicles in the region.

On Monday 18 October, as the 20th electric charging station was put into operation in the municipality of Oberhausbergen, Eurométropole de Strasbourg, ENGIE Solutions and Freshmile announced a substantial increase to their initial commitment and further investments.

Following a call for private initiatives launched by Eurométropole de Strasbourg, in April of 2020, ENGIE Solutions, together with Freshmile, undertook to deploy 90 terminals in the 33 municipalities in the metropolitan area, for a total of 180 charging points.

In addition to the initial objective, another 160 to 410 charging points are also expected:

  • By the end of 2025, a minimum of 250 terminals, or 500 charging points for electric vehicles, will be deployed throughout Eurométropole de Strasbourg
  • Potential for additional roll-out, to be confirmed annually, should bring the total number of terminals to 500 by the end of 2026, representing 1,000 charging points

Through this new commitment, ENGIE Solutions is supporting Eurométropole de Strasbourg in sustainable mobility and establishing itself as a long-term local partner in the low-carbon energy transition. In the future, ENGIE Solutions is also committed to providing 100% renewable energy to supply these terminals.

The local operator, Freshmile, which is responsible for referencing the charging points, invoicing, and managing charging passes, has developed an application to locate the terminals, check their availability in real time and charge vehicles 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
